You are about to release your debut album, could you tell me the feelings that are going through you, in this exciting time for you?

Hauptmann D: Yes, this is very exciting time for us. At the moment the feelings are good and I’m glad that we started the whole project last spring. During recordings we had some difficulties that we had to cope with. Among the tight schedule we had to go through illness and some personal issues in our band that we managed to solve out. Problems are now behind and we are looking forward to see how people will receive our cool debut album.

Could you tell me a little about the theme of the album?

Hauptmann D: The name of the album tells it all, “This Side of Depravity”. It’s a trip to a world that is desperate, loveless, pervert, twisted, a place where all your dreams turns into the abominations. Actually it’s about the world we are living in, haha! On the side there is a very interesting theme on the album artwork about Mr. Bunny’s growth. It’s been made by a talented artist Rhett Podersoo from London. You are really gonna love it!

-Could you pick one song and describe it to us?

Hauptmann D: I pick the song titled ”Pigs”. It’s like an anti-”We Are The World”-song. It’s about the frustration with the people who can think nothing but their own benefits: “the world is a pigsty where we eat one another, God’s one great big family and the end of charity”.

If you had to describe your album to someone who has never heard of you what would you tell them?

Hauptmann D: You know, it’s hard to describe your music to others, but I can try to put it like this: Hard industrial rock with dark melodies and a taste of a twisted mind of a human being.

Your album is titled,” this side of depravity,” can you explain what the name means to you?

Hauptmann D: First we thought if we should tittle the album after a song. But none of them seemed to describe the album on the right way. The tittle “This Side of Depravity”came up from our bass player NooZ after we saw the first drafts of the album artwork. It was a perfect match.

What was the song writing process like for this album?

Hauptmann D: Mr. Bunny and I usually write the songs on our own and then we bring them to rehearsal room where the whole band brings them alive,  same thing we did this time. On the album there are also some lyrical content made by NooZ. Anyway, all the material was ready before we entered the studio and producer Kärtsy Hatakka gave his ideas before we started the recordings.

Are you content with the outcome of the CD?

Hauptmann D: Every other day yes. Haha. But that’s just me. I’m glad we have gotten very positive feedback from the people who have already heard the album. However, there are always things you would like to do a bit differently. The producers Kärtsy Hatakka and Pekka Laine used their best skills and the whole band worked hard. So I have to admit that I’m actually very happy with the outcome.

.A lot of bands wish they were from Helsinki since its such a booming scene.

Could you tell me what the scene is like in your opinion?

Hauptmann D: This is funny. If somebody would have told me ten-fifteen years ago that Finland or Helsinki will receive this much attention, I would have said that he’s hallucinating. Anyway, there’s a lot of great bands over here and of course crappy ones too. The scene is wide and diverse, so there’s something for everyone. Heavy music and its variations are the most common at the moment. It’s fine by me.

What has so far been the most exciting part of being in Cold Cold Ground?

Hauptmann D: Hmm… Being in the band such as Cold Cold Ground is an exciting experience in itself. Haha. So far this has been a very interesting time  for me, because we have had the opportunity to meet gifted, twisted (I mean really, heh) and great people and great bands as well. I’m glad we have a very supportive fan base too. Among the hard work we have had many fortunate coincidences lately which have given us self-confidence and belief that we are going the right direction. In the near past, making the album and maybe the support show for KMFDM have been most exciting parts of being in Cold Cold Ground for me!

What do you hope to accomplish with the release of this album?

Hauptmann D: I wish more people would find out about us. I wish it would open more doors for CCG and we could really start conquering the world!

Anything else you would like to say?

Hauptmann D: I hope I will see you all at our upcoming shows and of course at Trash Fest III in Helsinki in March. And remember to buy the album when it hits the stores. And yeah, go have a taste of new songs on CCG’s Myspace!

Thank you

Hauptmann D: My pleasure! Kiitos.
